PLAINVIEW, TX - Texas Wesleyan Wrestling faced off with Wayland Baptist one-on-one for the second time this season, Saturday. (RV) Men's Wrestling won a tight contest, 27-20 to sweep the two battles with the Pionners, while (RV) Women's Wrestling dropped a 26-13 battle with No. 6 WBU.

Three different Lady Pioneers are top-ranked individuals in their weight class, according to the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll released January 4: 101-lb Nina Pham, 136-lb Desiree Zavala and 155-lb Kaylynn Albrecht. Albrecht didn't wrestle, Pham competed at 109 and both Pham and Zavala picked up victories, but neither were pins. TXWES' Alyen Vivar and Elizabeth Harris competed in tough spots and did not let some of the toughest competitors in the nation get them down.

Ashley Molina (191-lbs) picked up a 8-6 decision, Alexandra Magana (116-lbs) locked down her opponent 11-0 and Clarissa Archuleta picked up a forfeit.

Wayland Baptist led the Rams on the men's side 14-6 and 20-18 before a dramatic come-from-behind victory thanks for a forefit win and a nail-biting 4-1 victory for Drake McKee (174-lbs). Zane Miller (197-lbs) and Don Doyle (165-lbs) scooped up forfeits but the rest of the squad gutted out some close triumphs, winning matches 8-7 (John Geiger, 133-lbs) and 6-2 (Jason Chambers (149-lbs). Adrian Zubia (141-lbs) was the only Ram on either side to win by fall and in doing so gave the Rams a 15-14 edge at the time.

Both teams will battle Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas Friday January 31. The women won the first matchup, 24-14, while the men cruised to a 31-15 'W'. Conference tournaments are quickly approaching (Men - Feb. 22-23, Women - Feb. 29).
