MARSHALL, Mo. – The Texas Wesleyan University men's wrestling team (RV) (3-2) went 2-2 in four match-ups at the Missouri Valley College Viking Duals on Saturday. The Rams came up short against a pair of top NAIA teams, falling to No. 15 Graceland and No. 11 Missouri Valley before salvaging the day with two blowout wins against Bethany College (Kan.) and Central Baptist (Ark.).
The Rams hung with Graceland in the first dual of the day, winning five of the 10 match-ups with the Yellowjackets, but Graceland earned four technical falls to pull away in a 29-19 slugfest. The marquee win was earned by
Dracius McKee (165) after he won 15-13 in a sudden victory (overtime) bout. Deandre Rucker (197) got a 10-3 decision win, while JaMarcus Thomas (285) led the team with a win by fall at the 4:06 mark.
Christian Espinoza was the lone Ram to make any headway in hostile territory against a tough host in Missouri Valley. Espinosa finished off Anthony Erickson in an 8-6, sudden victory thriller.
TXWES made quick work of Bethany College, with Espinosa and Don Doyle contributing 6-point efforts in the 43-9 win.
Central Baptist forfeited five of the match-ups in the final dual of the day, with Espinosa, McKee, and Thomas grapping wins by fall in the 54-3 win.
The Rams will continue to work toward getting a team bid to the NAIA National Championship, which is set for March 5-6, 2021 at Hartman Arena in Park City, Kan.
