ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan University men's and women's tennis teams stayed spotless on the season, powering past NCAA DIII Hardin-Simmons University on Sunday. The Rams won a closely contested 4-3 match-up, while the Lady Rams topped the Cowgirls 5-2. Both the Rams and Lady Rams improved to 4-0 on the season.
On the men's side, the Cowboys took all three doubles matches and picked up the first point of the match. The Rams edged out four of the six singles matches to post the 4-3 win. It was the singles 4's match-up that sealed the victory for TXWES. Thibault Gasser gutted out a tough match with Joshua Lopez, 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-4.
On the women's side, TXWES took the doubles point after winning two of the three matchups.
Aurora Novati and Cara Antonio won 6-3, while Thamara Pinto and
Caitlin Souvannavong dominated in a 6-1 win. The Lady Rams took the 1,2,3 and 4's singles matches to gain the lop-sided win. Novati, Pinto, Souvannavong, and
Cecilia Salazar took wins. Pinto ended up on the right end of a 7-5, 6-4 match over Lauren Schaeffer in the closest match of the day.
The teams will stay on its home courts to host the University of the Southwest on Friday, March 26 at approximately 2 p.m. The women will take on Collin College at noon that same day. TXWES Tennis play home matches at the Arlington Tennis Center.
