SHERMAN, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan University men's tennis team (9-0) remains spotless, while the women's tennis team (6-1) also posted a win over NCAA DIII Austin College on Saturday.
The Rams blanked the Roos (3-8) 7-0 and the Lady Rams picked up a 5-2 win over the Austin College women's team (3-8) as each team heads into the conference championship event, set for April 22-23 at Northside High School in Helotes, Texas.
On the men's side, the Rams overwhelmed the Roos from top to bottom.
Mathieu Vinet was the deciding match, holding a 6-3 advantage in the opening set before Calum Robe retired in the second.
On the women's side, the Lady Rams secured a 5-2 win despite playing a woman down.
Thamara Pinto unfortunately had to withdraw due to minor illness, however the junior business major from Lima, Peru is expected to play in the RRAC championship.
The Roos took the doubles matches as a result, with the doubles #2 pair of
Caitlin Souvannavong and
Cecilia Salazar taking the lone win (8-3) for the Lady Rams.
In singles play however, TXWES went 5-1, with the only loss coming from the vacant singles #6 spot. It was
Aurora Novati in singles #1 with the clincher as she notched a 6-4, 6-1 win over Gigi Francis.
