OKLAHOMA CITY-- The Texas Wesleyan men's wrestling team lost a dual 31-15 to (RV) OCU on Wednesday evening at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Rams won four matches, one by a decision and three by major decisions. TXWES lost six matches, one by decision, two by technical falls, one major decision, and two forfeits (165,174) which gave the Stars a 12 point advantage.
The first match of the dual took place in the 125 match between Cooper Mahaffey (Oklahoma City) and
Jeremy McPherson (Texas Wesleyan.) Mahaffey claimed 6 points for the Stars, defeating McPherson by a technical fall. TXWES bounced back with a (10-2) major decision win in the 133 pound match by senior
Jordan Martinez. Martinez pulled the Rams to within three points heading into the 141 pound match.
Sophomore
Bobby Robinson won the 141 match by a (11-2) major decision. Robinson earned 4 points which put TXWES ahead 8-6 going into the 149 match. Freshman
Brady Earhart earned 4 points for the Rams with a (11-3) major decision over Jaxen Gilmore. Freshman
Austin Loza won the 157 match by a (11-9) decision over Connor Holman of OCU. Loza earned 3 points which gave TXWES a 15-6 lead heading into the 165 match.
The Rams suffered two forfeits (165, 174) which swung the dual in the favor of the Stars. OCU gained 12 points which put them ahead 18-15 with three matches left in the dual. The Stars finished off the dual by winning the last three matches (184, 197, and 285) to defeat the Rams 31-15.
The Rams won 4 straight matches, but were not able to hold the momentum as they dropped the final 5 matches which lifted the Stars past the Rams.
TXWES moves to 0-4 all-time against OCU. The Rams will compete in the Missouri Valley Invitational on Friday, Jan. 21 and Saturday, Jan.22.
