LOUISVILLE, K.Y. – The fourth ranked Texas Wesleyan University women's wrestling team finished fifth at the 2022 U.S. Marine Corps/NWCA Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships – Presented by ARMS Software, Capitol Construction & Defense Soap, hosted by NUWAY at Kentucky International Convention Center on Friday.
TXWES went 4-1 in the event. The Lady Rams started the day with a 34-4 win over Iowa Wesleyan before slipping in the second round to fifth ranked Grand View, 26-19. After the loss, TXWES dominated No. 20 Brewton Parker 40-6, topped No. 11 Indiana Tech 28-28, and finished the day with a fifth place bout win over No. 9 Baker, 27-21.
"These young ladies are as impressive as a team as they are individually," commented head coach
Ray Bedford. "It was a great honor to coach this week. Although we are young, they are true professionals. I'm so excited for postseason. Be on the lookout for some outstanding performances going forward."
Second ranked Life University won the event, topping No. 1 Campbellsville 25-19. No. 3 Southern Oregon won the third place dual by a score of 27-17 over Grand View.
The 130 division No. 1
Mea Mohler, competed in the 136 division today. She scored 22 points and went 4-0, highlighted by a 10-0 tech fall win over Indiana Tech's 11th ranked Ellyana Kuzma.
Lexi Basham, the NAIA's topped ranked individual in the 136 weight division, cut weight and competed in the 130 division. She scored 20 points and went 4-0 in the event including an 8-4 decision win over fifth-ranked individual Andrea Schlabach (Grand View).
Devin Patton, the 4th ranked wrestler in the 123 division, went 4-0 and contributed 15 team points. Patton took care of business against a pair of ranked opponents, including an 8-4 decision win over 6th ranked Adrienna Turner (Grand View).
Jasmine Godinez, who ranks fifth among the 109 division, topped 4th ranked Tehani Soarz (Indiana Tech) in a 10-0 tech fall win.
The team is scheduled to compete at the Hastings College Open on Jan. 9 before taking on all comers at the York College Open on Jan. 15. The SAC Championships are set for March 1, while the NAIA National Invitational is scheduled to start March 11.
