FORT WORTH, Texas – This week's Oklahoma Ford Dealers Sooner Athletic Conference football game of the week pits Langston against Texas Wesleyan in a clash of top-20 ranked teams in the NAIA.
No. 20-ranked Langston meets No. 19 Texas Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Saturday at Farrington Field. Oklahoma Ford Dealers serves as the official auto maker and dealer group of the SAC.
Langston comes into the matchup as the last unbeaten team in the conference at 5-0, 4-0 in the SAC. The Lions boast of one of the most prolific offenses in the NAIA, ranking second in scoring (49.4 points a game) and third in total offense (495.0 yards per game) this season. Langston knocked off Lyon 43-3 on Oct. 1 at its home field, W.E. Anderson Stadium.
Markell Scott has propelled Langston with 607 yards and seven touchdowns running the ball, averaging 121.4 yards on the ground per game to rank fourth nationally. Scott, a senior from Pine Bluff, Ark., piled up a season-high 221 yards and three touchdowns rushing on 19 carries on Sept. 24 at Arkansas Baptist. Larry Harrington rates second nationally with a 189.3 passing efficiency, having thrown for 1,128 yards and 13 scores in 2022.
Texas Wesleyan (5-1, 4-1 SAC) also owns a productive offensive attack. The Rams have tallied 270 points to rank second nationally as well as 45.0 points per game and 1,408 rushing yards to be fifth in the NAIA.
The Rams' Jamarrion Reed took SAC defensive player of the week the previous week. Reed, a sophomore from Ruston, La., recorded eight tackles, three solo stops, 1½ tackles for loss, two interceptions and a pass breakup in Texas Wesleyan's 35-0 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God last week. Reed has compiled 37 tackles and five tackles behind the line of scrimmage on the year. Ernest Ceasar, a sophomore from Beaumont, Texas, has churned out 685 yards rushing.
