Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The Rams didn't get a warm welcome home as they dropped the first two games of The Texas Roundup vs. The Master's University of California. After going on the road and participating in the Cajun Collision last weekend, Texas Wesleyan looked to get things going with a four-game home stand at Sycamore Park.
In Game One, the Mustangs wasted no time, as their CF Will Batz connected on a solo home run to dead center on the game's second pitch to put them up 1-0. They would add on two more runs in the second inning, but the Rams got on the board courtesy of SS Chaeston Chon's RBI single to make it a 3-1 ballgame.
The Mustangs then exploded for a five-run fourth inning, giving them an 8-1 lead. The Rams responded in that bottom half with a pair of RBI singles from 2B
TJ Tomlinson and 3B
Brandon Rincones.
Four more runs came across to score over the next two innings, giving the Mustangs a 12-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Rams put together two two-run home runs, one by 1B
Hayden Hutchins and the other by C
Carson Cheaney. But the Mustangs would prevail, winning 12-7.
In Game Two, the Rams would look to flip the script, and they got off to a hot start, thanks to a solo home run from CF
Tomas Sanchez, to give the Rams an early 1-0 lead.
A half inning later, the Mustangs would take the lead on a couple of singles, leading to a 3-1 lead. The Rams responded well in the bottom half of the second, as they retook the lead after a four-run inning. Chon and C
Dylan Masanda delivered with RBI singles, while Tomlinson and Sanchez stayed patient at the plate and drew walks to score insurance runs.
Things took a significant turn in the third inning for the Mustangs, as they put together a six-run route, giving them a decisive 9-5 lead. They would go on to win this game by a score of 10-5.
The Rams would pitch ten total pitchers over today's doubleheader. While most worked an inning in relief, RHP
Stephen Roberts stood out the most in Game Two by hurling three innings of work, only allowing one run on three hits, while striking out seven in the process.
Texas Wesleyan now sits at 8-4 on the young season and looks to bounce back on Sunday in the finale of the Texas Roundup as the battle the Baker University of Kansas in a doubleheader. The first pitch of Game One is set for noon.
