Texas Wesleyan University emerged victorious against Oklahoma City in a college baseball game on Saturday in the first of two games, 9-7.Â
Texas Wesleyan's offense was led by
Tomas Sanchez, who had three hits and two RBIs, and Joey Pena, who had two hits and two RBIs. On the other hand, Oklahoma City's offense was led by Reese Ratchford, who had two hits and four RBIs, including a two-run home run.
Defensively, Texas Wesleyan's pitcher
Eugene Gay, who earned the win, pitched for three innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out six batters. Oklahoma City's starting pitcher, Isaiah Horstman, who took the loss, allowed seven runs on 11 hits and a walk over five innings. Texas Wesleyan's defense committed three errors, which could have proved costly but did not ultimately affect the game's outcome.
Offensively, Texas Wesleyan took the lead in the first inning, scoring four runs, thanks to a double by
Tomas Sanchez and a single by
Logan Silvertooth. The team also scored three runs in the fourth inning, with
Jonathan Pena's double and a wild pitch allowing them to extend their lead to 7-5. In the sixth inning, Kevin Santiago's RBI double gave Texas Wesleyan a two-run lead and the eventual win.
Oklahoma City's offense scored in each of the first four innings but was held scoreless for the remainder of the game. The team's offense relied heavily on Ratchford's bat, with his two-run homer in the fourth inning putting Oklahoma City ahead by two runs.
Game 2:
Texas Wesleyan defeated Oklahoma City 15-5 in the second of two games Saturday at Sycamore Park in Fort Worth, Texas. The win marked the 24th victory of the season for Texas Wesleyan, which improved its record to 24-11. Meanwhile, the loss dropped Oklahoma City's record to 15-15.
The game was dominated entirely by Texas Wesleyan, who took a commanding lead early on and never looked back. The first inning saw
Tomas Sanchez hitting a home run to right field, bringing in
TJ Tomlinson and setting the tone for the rest of the game. The second inning saw  Sanchez hitting another homerun, bringing in
Brandon Rincones and Hayden Hutchens, leading to a 5-0 score in favor of Texas Wesleyan.
The third inning saw Kevin Santiago hitting a home run and
Jonathan Pena scoring on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly from
Carson Cheaney brought in  Hutchens, and a fielder's choice from Tomlinson brought another run, leading to a score of 9-0 in favor of Texas Wesleyan.
Oklahoma City finally got on the board in the fourth inning when H. Lenochan hit a home run to left field. Still, Texas Wesleyan responded quickly in the fifth inning with a single from Cheaney that brought in  Rincones and a single from Santiago that brought in  Cheaney.
In the sixth inning, Sanchez hit a single and brought in Cheaney, and Grayson Barrett hit a single that brought in Sanchez. Oklahoma City scored one more run in the seventh inning, but it was not enough to overcome Texas Wesleyan's massive lead.
