FB: TXWES vs Arkansas Baptist College Preview

FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan University's football program is off to its best start in school history, boasting a 4-0 record and sitting atop the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with a perfect 2-0 conference mark.

Last week, Oklahoma Panhandle State dominated Arkansas Baptist 52-6, improving to 2-2. OPSU scored two first-quarter rushing touchdowns and maintained control throughout. Quarterback Brandon Stephen threw for 263 yards and three touchdowns, including a 26-yard strike to Jalen Partida. Arkansas Baptist, now 0-3, struggled offensively and didn't score until the fourth quarter with a 25-yard pass from Christopher Bel. Oklahoma Panhandle added a late touchdown to seal the victory.

On September 21, Texas Wesleyan secured a decisive 49-21 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State to take the top spot in the conference. The Rams led 7-0 after a 12-yard touchdown by Ernest Ceasar in the first quarter and extended the lead to 21-7 by halftime. They dominated the third quarter, adding three more touchdowns to make it 42-7 before closing out the win. TXWES set a new record for the longest season-opening win streak, including victories over ranked opponents No. 20 Lindsey Wilson and No. 16 OUAZ.

Texas Wesleyan and Arkansas Baptist have only met once, with Texas Wesleyan cruising to a 62-0 victory on September 30, 2023, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

On Saturday, Texas Wesleyan will face Arkansas Baptist at 4 p.m. at Panther Stadium, located next to North Crowley High School. The Champions Room will not be available for this game. It will return on October 19 at Crowley Multi-Purpose Stadium when the Rams take on Nelson University with a 4 p.m. kickoff.
