FORT WORTH — The Langston University Lions (2-5, 2-3 SAC) face a formidable challenge as they take on the Texas Wesleyan University Rams (4-3, 4-0 SAC) in a Sooner Athletic Conference showdown at Crowley ISD Multi-Purpose Stadium on Oct. 25, 2025, at 4 p.m.
The Homecoming game, broadcast on Urban Edge Network and KXTX 21, pits the resilient Lions against a Rams squad that has dominated their recent match-ups.
Langston's 2025 season has been a rollercoaster. The Lions started with a 7-55 loss to Grambling State in the Shreveport Classic. They followed with a tough home defeat to Louisiana Christian (24-31) and a 10-52 rout by Ottawa-Arizona during Homecoming.
However, Langston showcased its potential with a 48-14 thrashing of Arkansas Baptist at W.E. Anderson Stadium and a gritty 35-28 road win over Texas College. Their latest setback, a 28-42 loss to Wayland Baptist, leaves them with a .286 overall winning percentage and a one-game skid.
The Lions' offense has shown flashes of brilliance, particularly in their high-scoring win over Arkansas Baptist. However, consistency remains elusive against stronger foes.
Texas Wesleyan is coming off a hard-fought 28-19 non-conference loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Oct. 18. Despite trailing 28-6 after a third-quarter interception return for a touchdown, the Rams rallied with two fourth-quarter scores from quarterback
Cole Francis.
He threw for 366 yards, completing 28 of 51 passes with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Running back
Mark Benjamin added 78 yards on 17 carries.
Paul Summers led receivers with eight catches for 81 yards. The Rams converted 8 of 18 third downs but were hampered by six penalties for 54 yards.
Historically, Texas Wesleyan has owned this matchup, holding a 3-0 record against Langston since 2022, with an average victory margin of 30 points. Their most recent clash on Nov. 9, 2024, saw the Rams crush the Lions 49-7 in Crowley.
Langston's defense will need to contain Francis' passing attack and limit big plays, while their offense must sustain drives to keep pace with Texas Wesleyan's high-octane scoring, which averages 48 points per game in this series.
Langston's hopes hinge on replicating the offensive firepower seen against Arkansas Baptist and tightening their defense to disrupt the Rams' rhythm.
Texas Wesleyan, undefeated in conference play, aims to capitalize on its home crowd's energy and continue its dominance.
With both teams eager to make a statement, this Homecoming clash promises intensity, but the Rams' historical edge and offensive prowess make them the favorites.
