HOBBS — Texas Wesleyan University made a strong showing at the Battling in the Desert tournament, held Oct. 6-7, 2025, at Rockwind Community Links Golf Course, with Brady Meek claiming the individual title in a dramatic playoff. The Texas Wesleyan [A] team finished second overall, highlighting their competitive edge in the NAIA event hosted by the University of the Southwest.
Meek, a standout for Texas Wesleyan [A], finished the tournament at 8-under-par, tying Oklahoma City's Lorenzo Santinelli. In the playoff on the par-5 16th hole, Meek sealed the victory with a stunning eagle, showcasing his clutch performance under pressure. His teammate, Jose Manuel Sanchez, also impressed, finishing fifth at 2-under-par with consistent rounds of 70, 71, and 73. Yevgeniy Ryu and Kolbe Fielder contributed to the team's effort, posting scores of 1-over and 3-over, respectively, while Luke Akerman rounded out the [A] team at 11-over.
The Texas Wesleyan [B] team tied for seventh at 30-over-par. Sebastian Velasquez led the squad with a 1-over-par performance, including a strong final round of 3-under. Jesper Brinchmann-Hansen added a 2-over-par score, while Haroon Aslam finished at 6-over. Benjamin Leon and Raimundo Gonzalez closed out the [B] team's effort at 24-over and 26-over, respectively.
The team leaderboard saw Oklahoma City take the top spot at 16-under-par, followed by Texas Wesleyan [A] at 7-under. The University of the Southwest [A] placed third at 15-over, Texas A&M-Texarkana fourth at 18-over, and Texas A&M-Victoria fifth at 23-over.
The Rams return to actionn on Oct. 13 and 14 at the USAO Fall Invitational - The Battle at Winter Creek in Blanchard, OK.
