ATCHISON - Texas Wesleyan University claimed three individual titles and racked up 108 team points at the Service Salute Invite on Nov. 8.
Ezequiel Valadez captured the 133-pound open division crown with a 4-0 record, including a 4-2 decision over David Ritchey of Labette Community College in the final. Valadez also notched a major decision (11-3) over Couper Deckard of Central Methodist in the quarterfinals and a 4-3 decision against Talon Suttles of Colby Community College in the semifinals, contributing 17 points.
At 157 pounds, Landry Wilkinson went 4-0 en route to first place and a team-high 22 points. Wilkinson pinned three opponents — James Smith of Quincy in 40 seconds, Ayden Wohlgemuth of Colby in 2:00 and Lucas Clement of Quincy in 3:34 — before closing with a 12-1 major decision over Peyton Asbury of Central Methodist in the championship.
Wilbert Martin dominated the 285-pound bracket for his title, scoring 21.5 points with a 4-0 mark. Martin opened with a 17-2 technical fall over Matthew Hobbs of Quincy, followed by a 1:52 pin of Gavin Barker of Avila and a forfeit win against Gage Wingerter of Labette in the semifinals. He sealed the victory with a 20-12 major decision over Walker Walls of Central Methodist.
Wilfredo Lopez took third at 141 pounds with 16 points and a 3-1 record. Lopez pinned Gavin Shoush of Central Methodist in 3:28 and notched an 11-2 major decision over Tucker Collinsworth of Labette in the quarterfinals. After a semifinal pin loss to Daniel Vines of Avila in 3:50, Lopez rebounded with a 3:43 pin of Dimitri Bao-Washington of Quincy in the third-place match.
Brody Gomez placed fourth at 165 pounds, adding 15 points with a 3-2 record. Gomez pinned Keenan Tumbarello of Avila in 5:15 and Gavin Morawitz of Quincy in 59 seconds, plus a 10-0 major decision over Cody Hughes of Central Methodist. He fell by pin to Eric Hodge of Central Methodist in both the quarterfinals (4:31) and third-place match (0:35).
Enrique Cabrera finished fifth at 125 pounds with 11.5 points and a 3-1 record. Cabrera earned a 16-5 major decision over Eden Cobos-Ortega of Otero Junior College, a 7:00 pin of Braxton Moody of Labette and a 10-2 major decision against Raul Romero of Avila in the fifth-place bout. He lost by pin to Kike Yanez of Barton in 1:59 in the quarterfinals.
Evan Atchley scored 5 points at 157 pounds with a 2-1 record in consolations, pinning Charles Sipp of Avila in 2:28 and Cristian Ramos of Benedictine in 4:52 after an opening 14-4 major decision loss to Isaiah Nichols of Quincy. His final placement was not listed.
Zeb Fulmer (165 pounds) and Robert Rocha (174 pounds) each went 0-2 and scored no points. Fulmer lost 7-3 to Gabe Kiddoo of Central Methodist and forfeited to Jais Rose of Labette. Rocha fell 9-7 to Jase Motlagh of Avila and 11-6 to Dalton Schell of Quincy.
