FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan University (1-0) opened their season against University of Dallas (0-3) with a 7-0 victory in men's tennis.
In doubles, the Rams quickly swept the Crusaders 3-0, winning the first team point of the match.
The number three doubles team, manned by Fabio Martin and
Adriano Andrade, won their match with a swift 6-1 victory. With aggressive net play and dominant serves, they made quick work of the opposition. The number two doubles team, manned by Malte Sommer and Elliot Hoffmann, cruised to a 6-2 victory. Sommer and Hoffman play with great chemistry and great strategy to ensure their opponents don't stand a chance. Lastly, the Rams number one doubles team, manned by
Luca Link and
Marco Salamanca, struggled early going down 5-0. After the game break they came back with severe determination and won seven straight games to win the match 7-5.
In singles, the Rams once again made quick work of the Crusaders, winning all six matches.
Salamanca (6-0, 6-3) won his match with aggressive shots and minimal errors. Sommer (6-0, 6-3) defeated his opponent by calculating every shot with precision. Andrade (6-3, 6-2) played a long game with his opponent by creating long and consistent rallies but won on his aggression at the net to put the opposition at bay. Hoffman (6-0, 6-3) relied on his skills to put away his opponent with ease. Link (6-0, 6-0) showed utter dominance by not giving up a single game in his complete victory. Martin (6-2, 6-1) made quick work of his opponent as he finished in under an hour by controlling the match from the first serve.
The Rams women (1-1) defeated University of Dallas (0-3) 7-0 in their first victory of the season.
In doubles, the Rams also won their doubles matches as a team 3-0.
The number three doubles team,
Camdyn Sackett and
Taytum Stafford, the number two doubles team Carla Arce and
Zeynep Ege, and the number one doubles team
Kaja Brunzlow and
Paulina Hudson, all won their matches decisively, winning 6-0.
In singles, the results continued to be a dominant win in all six matches.
Ege (6-2, 6-1) won with her dominant serve and well thought out strategy. Hudson (6-2, 6-0) used her strengths in her serve and forehand to win her match with ease. Brunzlow (6-0, 6-0) started off the match hot and didn't look back by keeping her foot on the gas the whole match. Arce (6-0, 6-0) played with consistency and precision by not even giving up a single game. Stafford (6-4, 6-1) had a close one in the first set by going back and forth, but after the set break, she regrouped and won the second set with ease with her strong mental game. Sackett (6-1, 6-1) won her match with her strong serves and strong return game.
This victory marks the first of many for
Nicole Davis as the head coach of Texas Wesleyan.
The Rams continue their spring season at East Texas Baptist University on Feb. 21.
