MBB: “All or Nothing”: Kaden Morgan’s Relentless Drive Leaves a Mark On and Off the Court

FORT WORTH Kaden Morgan, a senior sports communication major at Texas Wesleyan University, has made an impact far beyond the hardwood. As a starting guard for the men's basketball team, Morgan's relentless energy, discipline and tenacity have earned him a reputation as one of the hardest-working players in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Morgan doesn't just play basketball — he attacks it. Where every possession, drill, and moment is treated like his last. His intensity sets the tone both in practice and under the lights.

"Kaden's playing style is one speed," Head Coach Brian Wanamaker said. "He plays extremely hard at a pace that can frustrate opponents, but also a pace that you love as a coach and teammate. He gives everything he's got in every moment."

Morgan started 28 of the team's 30 games during the 2024–25 season, averaging 29.1 minutes per game. He totaled 168 points, 102 rebounds, 52 assists and 47 steals, including a career-high seven steals against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Jan. 25.

"He just has a motor that doesn't stop," Wanamaker said. "We do walk-through drills where he doesn't walk. It's full speed all the time. That's what made him one of the best defenders in our conference, and that's why he was so valuable for us."

His season highs included 12 points against Science and Arts, eight rebounds versus Southwestern Christian, and five assists at Mid-America Christian. That steady production on both ends of the floor was key to the Rams' competitiveness throughout the season.

Teammate and close friend Kristopher O'Neal echoed that admiration.

"Kaden is every coach's dream," O'Neal said. "He's gonna show up and give you everything he's got. He does all the little things people don't want to do, but that wins games. You trust him completely on the court."

Morgan's discipline carries beyond the gym. According to O'Neal, his off-the-court habits are just as intentional.

"Even from his eating habits to waking up and going to sleep on time, everything he does is intentional," O'Neal said. "He's hardworking and ambitious, and he's everything that not just a player but a man should be."

Morgan said he wants to be remembered as someone who always gave his all — a player whose habits matched his ambition. His game-day routine includes reading scripture or a book to calm his nerves, followed by a cold shower to sharpen his focus.

"I don't have any superstitions," Morgan said, "but I always make time to get my mind right."
Though soft-spoken, Morgan leads through action. His teammates feed off his intensity and commitment.

"He's not a vocal leader," Wanamaker said. "But he leads by example. He goes out there and does it, and expects others to follow suit."

That leadership was especially evident during high-pressure moments.

"Pressure doesn't slow him down," Wanamaker said. "When other players might shrink a little, Kaden is still going the same pace, same intensity. He's built for high-stakes moments."

Morgan hopes to pursue a professional basketball career overseas after graduation, but his long-term plans already include coaching. He credits Wanamaker for shaping his character both on and off the court.

"He's helped me grow in ways other coaches haven't," Morgan said. "Especially off the court. He's pushed me, and I've become a better person."

Wanamaker believes Morgan's potential extends far beyond basketball.

"I told him this in a text: whether it's basketball, becoming a doctor, or a lawyer, whatever it is, he's going to knock it out of the park. Because he gives his all to everything."

Morgan's story isn't just about athletic performance. It's a testament to resilience, discipline and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

As O'Neal put it: "Every team needs a player like Kaden."
