FORT WORTH — The Texas Wesleyan University men's and women's tennis teams electrified the start of their season at the Ram Invite, racking up impressive wins against regional rivals and showcasing an array of players shining in their Rams debuts.
Eight newcomers claimed their initial victories for the program:
Yoni Danzic, Will Bayliss,
Alejo Zurmendi, Alex Capilla, Carson LaJone,
Miguel Moreno,
Ahmed Elkassas and
Shelby Standokes.
Transitioning to the women's side, the Rams dominated in singles play, posting a 14-4 overall record against opponents from Texas A&M University-Texarkana, Hardin-Simmons University, Austin College, University of Dallas and Weatherford College. Three players went undefeated in singles:
Paulina Hudson,
Kaja Brunzlow and Mica Magday. In doubles, the team went 7-2, with the top-flight duo of Hudson and Ege securing the win.
Meanwhile, on the men's side, the Rams tallied 16 singles victories, including 12 from players in the top six positions. They also notched nine doubles wins. Senior Malte Sommer and freshman
Alejo Zurmendi stood out by remaining undefeated in singles throughout the weekend.
"I saw lots of good things this weekend," Head Coach Wade Morgan said. "We competed hard as a team, had some tough learning moments, but ultimately came away with some great things for us to work on moving forward. I'm excited to get to work with this group."
