WEST PALM BEACH — Texas Wesleyan University placed second in the team standings at the Kona Ice Keiser Kup, finishing 18 strokes behind host and top-ranked Keiser but well ahead of the rest of the 11-team NAIA field.
The No. 16-ranked Rams carded rounds of 4-over, 9-over and 4-over for a 54-hole total of 17-over par on the Okeeheelee Golf Course. Texas Wesleyan closed with the same final-round score as its opening round to secure runner-up honors, 10 strokes ahead of third-place Palm Beach State (+27).
Yevgeniy Ryu led the Rams and finished third individually at even par, posting rounds of 3-under, 1-under and 4-over. Kolbe Fielder tied for fourth at 4-over, including a final-round 1-under.
Ryu and Fielder gave Texas Wesleyan two of the top four individual finishes, helping the Rams stay in contention throughout the three-day stroke-play event despite Keiser's depth at the top of the leaderboard. Keiser #1 won the team title at 1-under par, the only squad under par for the tournament.
Iver Sokhan-Sanj of Keiser claimed medalist honors at 4-under par.
The Rams will next play at The Battle at Laughlin Ranch Golf Course on Mar. 23-24.
