TEN: Rams Perfect in Oklahoma Matchups

EDMOND, OK - The Texas Wesleyan University tennis teams traveled to Edmond, OK to take on Southwestern College and Bethany College in a Saturday neutral site matchup. Both the men and women were victorious in both matches as the men picked up two crucial wins and the women remain undefeated on the season.

Men's Results

TXWES 7, Southwestern 0

Texas Wesleyan secured the doubles point decisively with victories across all three courts. At No. 1 doubles, Wil Bayliss and Alejo Zurmendi defeated Jackson Davis and Drake Lowe 6-0. The No. 2 doubles team of Adriano Andrade and Malte Sommer mirrored that outcome with a 6-0 win over Connor Stampley and Victor Arias. Yoni Danzic and Ahmed Elkassas completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles, winning 6-0 against Francesco Rocchelli and Tyron Spears.

In singles play, the Rams maintained their momentum. Bayliss earned a straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-2, over Arias at No. 1 singles. At No. 4 singles, Zurmendi added another point with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Stampley. Danzic furthered the lead at No. 3 singles, defeating Davis 6-1, 6-1. Andrade clinched the dual match for Texas Wesleyan with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lowe at No. 2 singles. Sommer and Alejandro Capilla Aparicio rounded out the sweep with victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Sommer won 6-0, 6-1 over Rocchelli, while Capilla Aparicio closed with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph against Spears, securing a dominant performance for the Rams.

TXWES 5, Bethany 1

Texas Wesleyan secured the doubles point with a commanding sweep against Bethany. The visiting team started strong with Wil Bayliss and Alejo Zurmendi taking a 6-2 victory on court one over Gustavo Cardoso and Sebastian Stipanov. Adriano Andrade and Malte Sommer followed with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles against Martin Priban and Diego Bsereni. Texas Wesleyan clinched the doubles point when Yoni Danzic and Ahmed Elkassas defeated Dylan Gwilt and Santiago Stipanov 6-1 on court three.

In singles action, Martin Priban of Bethany claimed the opening singles match on No. 1 court, defeating Bayliss 6-3, 6-2. Texas Wesleyan responded as Andrade captured a 6-4, 6-2 win on court two over Bsereni. Danzic extended Texas Wesleyan's lead with a straight-set victory, 6-3, 6-1, over Gwilt at No. 3 singles. Bethany picked up a point on court four when Santiago Stipanov edged out Zurmendi in a tight match, winning 6-3, 2-6, 11-9. However, Texas Wesleyan closed out the contest with victories from Sommer at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-2 over Pedro Melo, and Elkassas at No. 6 singles, dispatching Alejandro Rico Moran 6-4, 6-2.

Women's Results

TXWES 7, Southwestern 0

Texas Wesleyan secured the doubles point with decisive victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Paulina Hudson and Zep Ege dominated at No. 1 doubles, defeating Rosennscar Elie and Natalie Blaufuss 6-0. Shelby Standokes and Mica Magday quickly followed with a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles against Chloe Patterson and Kaitlyn Celmo. The match at No. 3 doubles was left unfinished.

In singles play, Texas Wesleyan maintained momentum with Mai Tsushima capturing a swift 6-0, 6-0 victory over J'ciana Strong at No. 5 singles. Meghan Connoly extended the lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Chloe Patterson at No. 4 singles. Carla Arce Fernandez secured a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kaitlyn Celmo at No. 3 singles, further increasing the team's lead. Paulina Hudson added another point with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles against Natalie Blaufuss. Zep Ege closed the sweep at No. 1 singles, defeating Rosennscar Elie 6-1, 6-0. The match at No. 6 singles featuring Shelby Standokes was not completed.

Texas Wesleyan secured the doubles point with decisive performances across all courts. Paulina Hudson and Zep Ege triumphed 6-2 at No. 1 doubles against Ana Sofia Castillo Paz and Helen Harbit. Shelby Standokes and Mica Magday followed with a 6-1 victory over Makenna Russom and Kyla Metro at No. 2 doubles. Completing the sweep, Mai Tsushima and Carla Arce Fernandez defeated Karee Adam and Elise Richardson 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, the Rams maintained their momentum with a commanding performance. Ege opened with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Castillo Paz at No. 1 singles. Hudson continued the streak with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Russom at No. 2 singles. Magday added another point by defeating Harbit 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Arce Fernandez claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Richardson at No. 4 singles. Meghan Connoly extended the lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Elena Jundt at No. 5 singles. Finally, Tsushima completed the sweep for Texas Wesleyan with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Emily Meyer at No. 6 singles, sealing a flawless 7-0 result.

When asked about his team's performance Head Coach Wade Morgan responded "Today was a good team effort, we were battling the elements once again and we came out with high energy in both matches. The teams are starting to find a groove and we are excited for our upcoming matches."

The Rams take on Ottawa (AZ) on March 14 at 10am and Our Lady of the Lake on March 15 at 10am with both occurring at the Arlington Tennis Center.
