30 Student-Athletes Inducted Into Chi Alpha Sigma

FORT WORTH - Thirty student-athletes representing 13 sports were inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society on Wednesday.

Chi Alpha Sigma is the nation's first and only nonprofit organization dedicated to recognizing four-year college student-athletes who excel in both academics and athletics. Founded in 1996 by then-DePauw University head football coach Nick Mourouzis, the society connects honorees in a fraternal network that celebrates their combined academic and athletic achievements.

The organization has 551 active chapters nationwide and more than 17,000 inductees as of the 2024-25 academic year.

Texas Wesleyan University's Texas Sigma Chapter was established in May 2023. The chapter was created after student-athlete representatives on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee expressed a desire for greater recognition of their academic accomplishments. Dr. Jill Gerloff, approached Athletic Director Ricky Dotson about bringing the honor society to campus. Last year, the Sooner Athletic Conference provided sponsorship for all members to join or renew their membership, expanding recognition opportunities for scholar-athletes across the conference.

This marked the third induction class for Texas Wesleyan University. The latest class achieved the highest cumulative grade-point average of the three, at 3.81.
