Irvin Rue played men’s basketball at Texas Wesleyan from 1961-65.  Rue ranks 3rd on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,709 points and was one point shy of being the school’s all-time leading scorer at the time of his graduation.

Rue was a 1st-team All-Big State Conference selection in his sophomore season after averaging 17.7 points and 13.4 rebounds per game while leading the Rams to a Big State Conference Co-Championship.  For his career, he averaged 17.1 points and 11.8 rebounds in 100 games played.

Nearly 51 years after his graduation, Rue continues to hold five school records: 45 points and 20 field goals made in a game (1965 vs. Southwestern), 624 field goals made and 1,263 field goals attempted in a career and a career rebounding average of 11.8.

Rue was a sought after basketball recruit out of Poly High School in 1958, but had to forgo several scholarship offers due to family responsibilities.  In 1961, Texas Wesleyan Head Coach Elmer Hanebutt offered Rue the opportunity to play basketball and continue his education here in Fort Worth.  Rue went on to his remarkable collegiate career while continuing to work to help support his family.

After graduating from Texas Wesleyan with a degree in Business Management in the spring of 1965, Rue went on to work for a large printing company in Dallas as a Senior Supervisor and spent the next 35 years working for large printing companies and publishers advancing to the position of Corporate Logistics Manager for the Beckett Publishing company in Dallas.

Rue is now retired and in 2013, he and his wife, Pama, along with their two pet pugs moved to Hot Springs Village, AR, to experience some of the “Natural State’s” retirement living.  Rue has one daughter, Melissa, and a grandson, Crayle, who reside in Denton County.
