CHICKASHA, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (7-5) took two out of three at the University of Science & Arts Tournament on Saturday. The Rams clobbered York College (0-1) 10-1, fell to USAO 6-0, and topped McPherson College 4-1.

The offense could not have started better for Texas Wesleyan. In the bottom of the first against York, the Lady Rams sent 15 hitters to the plate and scored nine runs on seven singles and four walks as every player in the Rams’ lineup reached base in the frame and eight different players scored runs.

The Rams turned a leadoff double from Marissa Rangel into a run in the third, before giving up an unearned tally in the fifth to account for the 10-1 final score.

Ashley Hudson (3-0) worked all five innings in the win. She allowed just the one unearned run on two hits while striking out two.

Christina Kelley led Texas Wesleyan’s 11-hit attack with a 2-for-3 day at the plate while adding three RBI and a run scored.

USAO got the quick start in game-two. The Drovers batted around in the first and scored four runs on three hits and three walks. An RBI single from Richardson in the fourth and an unearned run in the fifth pushed the score to 6-0.

Taylor Hodge was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs on three hits and three walks in just a third of an inning.

McPherson also got the early edge, turning a walk into a run with a stolen base and a pair of passed balls. However, Texas Wesleyan quickly righted the ship. The Rams got RBI from Hopie Perez and Ashleigh Jiminez during a three-run third inning.

The Bulldogs handed the Lady Rams an insurance run with three errors in the fourth inning.

Hodge (2-3) made those runs stand up, working all seven innings and allowing one run on four hits while striking out eleven in the win.

The Lady Rams will return to action at the Friends University tournament in Wichita, KS, March 4-5.
