FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (11-16, 3-1 RRAC) took game one of a three game series against Bacone College (3-19, 1-10 RRAC). The Lady Rams poured it on in a 9-3 win over the Lady Warriors on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Rams got on the board first with a Kali Jester sacrifice fly that scored Makelle Akin from third to give Wesleyan an early 1-0 lead after one inning of play.
Texas Wesleyan went on a rally in the second started off by an Ashley Hudson solo shot over the left field wall. Akin drew a walk with the bases loaded to score one, and Raven Moreno smacked one through the left side to bring in two run and give the Lady Rams a 5-0 lead after two innings.
The Lady Warriors got on the board in the third with a Alex Fredman RBI single to left field that cut the score to 5-1 Wesleyan.
Bacone picked up another run in the fourth as the Lady Rams gave up a run to get a double play and the Wesleyan lead diminished slightly to 5-2.
The Lady Warriors tested Wesleyan in the fifth with a walk and two singles found the Lady Rams with the bases loaded and no outs. Taylor Hodge shut the door with three consecutive outs that didn’t produce any runs for Bacone and kept Texas Wesleyan out in front.
The Lady Rams picked up some insurance runs in the sixth inning Moreno put one over the left field fence to start the Rams off. Haley Butler and Jennifer Kline both singled to bring up Hudson, who delivered with a homer that sailed over the left center fence to extend the Lady Ram lead to 9-2.
Bacone manufactured one run in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all as the Lady Rams took the game 9-3.
Hodge picked up the win improving to 5-7 on the year. She tossed all seven innings, giving up three runs (two earned), on nine hits. She walked three and struck out five.
Moreno went 3-3 with a home run and three RBI, while Hudson went 2-3 with two home runs and four RBI in the designated player spot.
Wesleyan continues the series with the Lady Warriors with a double header tomorrow, Saturday, March 26. Game one of the double header is set for a noon start time.
