CEDAR HILL, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (12-19, 4-3 RRAC) was swept in a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader at Northwood University (27-11, 12-2) on Wednesday.
In game one, the Knights snagged the early lead with a two-run home run from Samantha Hernandez. Katrin Flornece led off the second inning with a solo homer that brought the score to 3-0.
Northwood put the game out of reach with a four-run sixth inning highlighted by a bases-clearing triple off the bat of Brittany Luna. The Rams got a two-run home run from
Haley Butler in the seventh, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Larisa Garcia (13-4) allowed three runs on nine hits while striking out ten in the win.
Ashley Tarrant (4-7) was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs on ten hits in 5.2 innings of work.
In game two, the Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs on four hits and an error in the first inning.
Rangel singled and scored for the Rams in the third inning, and an RBI double from Butler brought the score to 4-2 in the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, another Lady Ram error opened the door for a two run double from Jillian Jones, an RBi single from Flornece, and a game-ending three-run home run from Tancy Matthews.
Taylor Jones (11-6) picked up the win after allowing one earned run on five hits in five innings pitched.
Taylor Hodge (5-8) took the loss after allowing four earned runs on 12 hits in 4.2 innings of work.
Rangel went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the Lady Rams.
The Rams and Knights will complete their three-game series on Thursday. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start in Cedar Hill, TX.
