Grand Slam Lifts Lady Rams

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (21-21, 13-6 RRAC) notched a dramatic 7-6 win in challenging conditions against Our Lady of the Lake University (23-16, 14-5 RRAC) at Sycamore Park on Friday.

 

The Lady Rams struck first with an Ashleigh Jiminez two run home run to left field in the bottom of the second to give Wesleyan a 2-0 lead.

 

The Lady Saints picked up a run in the third with a two out triple by Tiffany Stritz and a RBI single from Meagan Potts to cut the lead in half with the Lady Rams up on the Saints, 2-1.

 

Our Lady of the Lake hit a three run bomb by Kaitlyn Bourg in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead.

 

The Lady Rams picked up a run to tighten the lead with a Raven Moreno RBI single through the left side to bring the score to a 4-3 OLLU lead.

 

The Lady Saints put another run up with a Brooke Hernandez home run to left field to make it 5-3 Lady Saints.

 

Texas Wesleyan answered big the sixth inning. Jiminez started the innings off with her third hit of the ball game. Hopie Perez was hit by a pitch, and Ashley Hudson came off the bench to pinch hit and after a long at bat Hudson drew a walk to load the bases. Moreno came through again with a grand slam home run to center to lift the Lady Rams to a 7-5 lead heading into the seventh inning.

 

The Lady Saints got a run back with a pop up that the gusty wind took over the center field to make it a 6-7 ball game. That was all the Lady Saints could muster as Texas Wesleyan took game one of the three game series 7-6.

 

Moreno led the Lady Rams going 2 for 4 with five RBI. Ashleigh Jiminez had a great day at the plate going 3 for 3 with two RBI in the win.

 

Ashley Tarrant (10-8) got the win tossing 7.0 innings. She gave up six runs (five earned) on eight hits to go along with one walk and two strikeouts.

 

The Lady Rams finish the series with the Lady Saints with a double header tomorrow starting at 1:00 p.m. at Sycamore Park.
