FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (26-16) suffered an 8-2 loss at the hands of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (14-14) at LaGrave Field on Tuesday.
Texas Wesleyan’s
Andrew Cooper and UMHB’s Danny Hortsman both breezed through the opposing lineup in the first three innings.
In the fourth, the Crusaders broke the scoreless tie with a two-out double from Braden Embry that scored Chris Joshlin from first base. In the bottom of the fourth, the Rams got a pair of walks and singles from
Joseph Lassiter and
Vincent Winter, but left the bases loaded without scoring a run.
UMHB loaded the bases with one out in the seventh.
Nolan Barbee entered the game in relief for the Rams and got the ground ball the situation called for, but the throw to the plate was wild and two runs scored. A second TWU error and a subsequent wild pitch let two more runs in, and the Crusaders led 5-0.
The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the second with
Taylor Jockers dropped a two-out two-run single down the left field line.
UMHB’s Reinaldo Araujo reached on an error the ninth inning and scored. After the fifth TWU error of the day, Braden Embry ripped a two-run double that pushed the score to 8-2.
Trevor Alaniz (1-1) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief. He allowed three hits and two weeks. Cooper (1-1) took the loss after allowing one run on four hits in four innings of work.
Jason Holmes collected three of Texas Wesleyan’s six hits, going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
The Rams will play a three-game RRAC series with Northwood University April 8-10. Friday’s opener is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start in Cedar Hill, TX, with Saturday’ and Sunday’s games scheduled for 1:00 p.m. starts at LaGrave Field.
