Knights Edge Rams in Game Two

Box Score

FORT WORTH, TX: One day after meeting in a 12-10 sluggfest, Texas Wesleyan University (27-17, 19-7 RRAC) and tenth ranked Northwood University (31-9, 20-3) staged a pitcher’s duel with Northwood coming out on top 3-0.

The Knights plated two runs in the first inning without the benefit of a base hit, taking advantage of two walks, a Texas Wesleyan error, and two wild pitches.

In the second inning, the Rams loaded the bases with one out on a pair of walks and a single from Justin Snider. However, Northwood starter, Frank Abbl induced a pop-up and got a strikeout to end the inning with no damage done.

The Rams put runners on first and second with no outs in the third inning. The Knights caught a break, when the umpire ruled a 5-4 double play although the second baseman failed to hold the ball. Stephen Niedwiecki and Christian Soberanes followed with walks to load the bases, but Abbl ended the inning with a ground ball to first base.

Adam Humes singled to right with one out in the third inning for Northwood’s first hit of the day.

Northwood put runners at the corners in the fifth inning with their cleanup batter, Johnny Aldaz, at the plate, but Colton Farrar picked Nico Taylor off of first base to end the inning.

Farrar kept the Knights off the boards until an RBI triple from Edwin Arroyo pushed the score to 3-0 in the ninth inning.

Cory Sarter (5-1) picked up the win after allowing just three hits in 5.2 innings of relief work. Farrar (3-6) pitched well in the loss, allowing just one earned run on seven hits in 8.2 innings pitched.

Eric Epperson had two of Texas Wesleyan’s six hits in four trips to the plate.

The rubber-match of the series will be played on Sunday at LaGrave Field. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
