Lady Rams Drop Two At St. Greg's Tourney

FARMERS’S BRANCH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (2-7) dropped a pair of games in Farmer’s Branch on Saturday. The Lady Rams just lost to Oklahoma Christian (8-1) 3-2, before dropping a game to St. Gregory’s (8-0) 6-1.

In the game against Oklahoma Christian, the two teams battled defensively until the Lady Eagles were able to break the scoreless tie in the fifth inning. Kendra Piece singled to lead off the inning, and Michelle Miller doubled behind her to put runners in scoring position with no outs. Pierce got thrown out trying to score on a fielder’s choice play, but Krista Martony put two across with a double to give the Lady Eagles a 2-0 lead. 

Oklahoma Christian added another run in the sixth with a Davee Croy home run to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Lady Rams made some headway in the seventh inning, with a Taylor Hodge two run home run to make it 3-2.  

Texas Wesleyan could not get any more runs, however, and the Eagles escape the Lady Rams 3-2.

Alexis Beltran (1-2) got the loss. She tossed six innings, gave up three runs on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. 

Hodge went 3 for 3 with two RBI, and Hopie Perez went 2 for 3 in the loss.

In the game against St. Gregory’s, the Lady Rams got behind early with a Caitlin O’Hagan RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.  

The Lady Cavs added another run in the next inning with a Blair Ward RBI on a fielder’s choice play.

The Lady Cavs put two more on the board in the third with a Callie Pacheco ground out, and another run crossed on a Ram error to make it 4-0. 

St. Gregory’s made it a 6-0 game with a run off of a fielder’s choice play and a O’Hagan RBI single.

Ashleigh Jiminez drove in the only Wesleyan run in the seventh on a fielder’s choice play as the Lady Rams fall to the Lady Cavs 6-1. 

The Lady Cavs held Wesleyan to only three hits in the ball game. Morgan Johnson (0-3) tossed 3.1 innings. She gave up six runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

The Lady Rams travel to Tyler, TX to take on Texas College to play a conference double header on Tuesday, February, 28 starting at 4:00 p.m.
