MUSKOGEE, OK: After using a pair of extra-inning home runs from
Lindsay Cline to take game one on Friday, the Texas Wesleyan University softball team (13-17, 11-4 RRAC) split a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader at Bacone College (14-18, 9-6) on Saturday to take the series two games to one. The Warriors took game one on Saturday 3-2 in another extra-inning affair, before the Rams took the rubber-match 6-2.
In game one, Bacone got on the board with an RBI single from Brittany Hand in the bottom of the second inning. In the fourth, Cline singled in front of
Dakota Whittern who blasted a two-run home run.
Continuing Friday’s trend, the Warriors had an immediate answer. In the bottom of the fourth, Krissy Froelich and Taylor Paulson started the inning with back-to-back doubles to tie the game at 2-2.
Texas Wesleyan’s
Morgan Johnson and Bacone’s Taylor Paulson kept the game tied through the regulation seven innings and the teams went to extras for the second consecutive game. In the bottom of the eighth, Froelich ripped another leadoff double. With two on and none out,
Makelle Akin gunned Froelich at the plate, but Hand followed with a walk-off RBI single.
Johnson (2-9) allowed three runs on nine hits in 7.1 innings of work. Paulson picked up the win after scattering five hits over eight innings, allowing just two runs.
Whittern went 2-for-2 with a home run in the loss.
In game two, the Rams jumped on the Warriors early.
Raven Moreno single-handedly gave the Rams the lead in the top of the first. After drawing a leadoff walk, Moreno stole second, third, and home to stake the Rams to a 1-0 advantage.
Texas Wesleyan added an unearned run in the second.
Christina Kelley the pushed the score to 5-0 with a three-run homer in the top of the third inning.
The Bulldogs plated two runs in the fourth, but the Rams capped the scoring with a run on a two-out wild pitch in the seventh.
Alexis Beltran (8-4) earned the win after allowing two runs on five hits while striking out seven Warriors in seven innings. Jillian Zeman took the loss after allowing five runs, four earned on four hits in four innings of work.
Moreno, Akin and
Kali Jester each went 2-for-4 at the plate as the Rams outhit the Warriors 8-5 in the contest.
The Lady Rams will return to action April 13-14 when they host the University of the Southwest in a three-game RRAC series. The doubleheader on the 13th is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start with the series finale scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. first pitch.
