FARMER’S BRANCH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (23-17) escaped an optimistic Bacone College (20-25) coming back to win 4-2 in the second round of the Red River Conference Athletic Tournament at Oran Good Park on Thursday.

The Lady Rams got things started early in the first with a two out bases loaded RBI rip through the left side from Courtney Orebaugh to make it a 1-0 Wesleyan lead after one inning.

The Lady Warriors took a 2-1 lead in the fifth with three consecutive single from the top the lineup with the third single by Keri Schmidt to drive in a run. The second run came on an error by the right fielder.

The Lady Rams got the tying to third in the sixth inning with Christina Kelley drawing a walk off of a great at bat. Morgan Johnson came in to pinch run and Ashley Seibel moved Johnson to second on a sacrifice bunt. She moved to third on a ground out to third. Makelle Akin hit a routine grounder to second that looked like it would end the inning, but it was booted toward first base and a diving Akin was called safe at first on the error. Meanwhile, Johnson scored on the play to tie the game a two apiece. The Lady Rams hit three consecutive singles up the middle that looked like déjà vu, with Ashleigh Jiminez and Lindsay Cline receiving RBI credits in the process to take a 4-2 heading into the final inning.

Both teams were able to play the field extremely tight due to a healthy wind blowing straight in from centerfield. There was only extra base hit coming from Akin in the fourth. Bacone’s defense played very well despite the Lady Rams scattering ten hits to the Lady Warrior’s four.

Orebaugh went 3 for 3 with a RBI. Marissa Rangel went 2 for 3 in the win. Cline went 2 for 4 with a RBI.

Alexis Beltran (16-4) tossed all seven innings. She gave up two runs, one earned, scattered four hits, five walks, four strikeouts.

The Lady Rams will play our Lady of the Lake University at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow at Oran Good Park in Farmer’s Branch.
