Lady Rams Compete At February Meltdown

CONWAY, AR: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (4-6) competed against some of the NAIA elite at the Central Baptist February Meltdown Tournament at the City of Colleges Park on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Rams dropped a 9-1 game to fourth ranked Oklahoma City University before taking a 4-3 loss to 14th ranked Williams Baptist College. Wesleyan slipped 11-4 to host Central Baptist on Sunday.
 
The Lady Rams took an early 1-0 lead in the game against Oklahoma City with a home run by Alexis Beltran.
 
The Lady Stars battled back and put up a three run third inning to take a 3-1 lead.
 
The two teams would play solid defense until Oklahoma City exploded for seven runs in the fifth that included two home runs to take a 9-1 win.
 
In the game versus Williams Baptist, the Lady Eagles took advantage of a couple a Lady Ram errors and took an early 1-0 lead.
 
Kylie Summers tied the game in the bottom of the second with a big home run to bring the score to 1-1.
 
The Eagles took a 2-1 lead off of a RBI single from Callie Simmons. Another Lady Ram miscue made it a 3-1 Williams Baptist lead.
 
Beltran put Texas Wesleyan within one run in the fourth inning with a home run smash to make it a 3-2 game.
 
The Lady Rams tied the game after a Kendall Kizer RBI groundout brought the score to three apiece.
 
Texas Wesleyan put the tying run in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh, but could not rally taking the close 4-3 loss.
 
In the game against Central Baptist, the Lady Rams leaped out to a 1-0 lead on a Kendall Kizer RBI fielder’s choice play.
 
The Lady Mustangs pushed passed Wesleyan to take a 6-1 lead in a huge second inning that included a Samantha Luther grand slam.
 
Central Baptist kept the big bats going with a Jessica Tickle two run home run and a Raeann Surrett three run homer to extend the lead to 11-1.
 
Cheyenne Brown put a dent in the lead with a three run home run to bring the score to 11-4.
 
The Lady Rams will play Texas College on Wednesday, February 27 in double header starting at 4:00 PM.
