FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (10-17, 3-6 RRAC) fell 5-1 and 7-2 in a double header with Our Lady of the Lake University (22-7, 12-0 RRAC) at Sycamore Park on Saturday.
 
The Lady Saints grabbed the lead in the first after a Kim Briseno tricky bounce single through the right side made way for an Amanda Hinojosa RBI double that found the right center gap for a 1-0 lead.
 
Our Lady of the Lake extended the lead to 3-0 with a two out Kailyn Miller single through the left side that allowed Jessele Perez to knock one over the left center fence for a home run.
 
The Lady Rams put a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the third after Meagen Alvarez drew a lead-off walk and two groundouts moved her to third base, but Texas Wesleyan could not get a run back.
 
Kailyn Miller got a base hit up the middle and worked her way into scoring position in the fourth for Ashley Perez to knock in another run on a single to deep right center for a 4-0 lead.
 
The Lady Rams fought back in the bottom of the fifth inning after Maegan Ramirez ran into some trouble, after hitting Sara Sandercock and walking Kali Jester. Sandercock stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Alvarez picked up a RBI on a fielder’s choice squeeze bunt play that worked to perfection to make it 4-1. Texas Wesleyan looked like they were in prime position to rally, but a Chelsey Durbin liner that found the pitcher’s glove turned into a double play and Ramirez and the Lady Saints escaped the run thirsty Lady Rams.
 
Miller responded in the sixth with a home run shot over the left field wall to make it a 5-1 game.
 
The Lady Rams put a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all as the Lady Saints take the game 5-1.
 
Cheyenne Brown (3-5) got the loss. Brown tossed all seven innings, giving up five runs on 11 hits, no walks, and four strikeouts.
 
Ramirez (8-4) picked up the win for Our Lady of the Lake in seven innings of work. She gave up one run on two hits to go along with six walks and 11 strikeouts.
 
In game two, Our Lady of the Lake got on the board in the first inning once again, this time off of a misplayed ball by the Lady Rams for a 1-0 lead.
 
Our Lady of the Lake added a run in the fourth inning, starting with an Hinojosa double to right center. Nadine Idrogo moved Hinojosa to third on a sacrifice bunt, and Brittany Stone drove in the run with a RBI double to the right center fence. Ryler Moreno laid into one and sent a shot over the left center wall for a home run and a 4-0 lead.
 
The Lady Saints extended the lead to 5-0 with a Hinojosa RBI single up the middle.
 
Alexis Beltran put the Lady Rams on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a two run blast past the left field fence to cut the lead to 5-2.
 
Moreno hit her second two run home run of the day down the left field line, for a team total of five for the series, as Our Lady of the Lake jumped out to a 7-2 lead.
 
The Lady Rams were unable to make a run in the bottom of the seventh and the Lady Saints won the series finale 7-2.
 
Danielle Najera (3-7) suffered the loss. She threw five innings, gave up five runs (four earned), on eight hits, no walks, and no strikeouts.
 
The Lady Rams will travel to Austin, TX to take on Huston-Tillotson University on Friday,March 29. The double header is set for a 2:00 pm start.
