AUSTIN, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (13-17, 6-6 RRAC) earned an important conference series sweep over Huston-Tillotson University (1-25, 1-11 RRAC) this weekend. The Lady Rams won the first game 3-2 before trouncing Huston-Tillotson 12-0 in game two of a double header yesterday. Wesleyan came from behind to seal the series sweep in a 5-4 win today.
 
In game one, the HTU Lady Rams led 2-1 until Meagen Alvarez tied the game with a RBI single in the sixth inning. With two outs in the top of the tenth inning, Cheyenne Brown and Alvarez hit back to back single to make way for a Kendall Kizer RBI single to take a 3-2 lead. Wesleyan shut down HTU in the bottom half of the inning to take the game one win.
 
Alexis Beltran (5-5) tossed all 10 innings earning the win allowing two runs (none earned), on eight hits, with two walks, and four strikeouts.
 
In game two, the Lady Rams flexed their muscles combining for 16 hits in the five inning route. Brown went 2 for 4 with three RBI and two runs scored, including an inside the park home run. Kali Jester went 2 for 2 with a pair of RBI. Beltran and Ashley Seibel both went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and three runs scored in the run rule 12-0 win.
 
In game three, HTU took a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning. The Lady Rams started the come-back in the fifth with an Emily Burch RBI single and a Huston-Tillotson error to bring the Rams within one at 4-3.
 
In the final inning the Lady Rams with their back against the wall came through after a pair of base hits to lead off the inning, Brown hit a RBI single to tie the game. Seibel got the job done on a fielder’s choice play to score the go ahead run. The Wesleyan defense shut down the HTU Lady Rams in the bottom of the seventh to earn the road sweep, winning the third game 5-4.
 
The Lady Rams will begin a conference series with SAGU starting with a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 2 at Sycamore Park starting at 5:00 pm.
