FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (32-13) recorded their first lost since March 16 as the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (19-17) took a 10-6 win from the Rams at LaGrave Field on Tuesday.
The Cru took an early lead in the first inning that started with a Heath Spencer slap shot single into shallow right field for a base hit. Robert Lowe drew a walk that lead to a RBI bloop single through the right side by Seth Mogavero. Mary Hardin-Baylor scored on an error to make it 2-0 game.
The Rams put two on in the bottom of the third after a
Jake Howeth double down the left field line, but were turned away.
UMHB converted on a double steal play in the fourth inning, and scored two more in the fifth inning to push the lead to a 5-0 Cru lead.
The Crusaders added a couple of runs in the seventh inning on a Jake Ricketts two RBI double off the left field wall for a 7-0 advantage.
UMHB continued to plate runs with three in the eighth to extend the lead to 10-0.
The Rams fought back working the relief pitcher in the eighth to get the bases loaded in a variety of ways. Texas Wesleyan drew a walk, were hit twice, had a single by
Alex Padilla, and a RBI fielder’s choice play from
Cody McGee.
Dusteyn Suttle kept the inning going with a RBI line drive base hit to center.
Charles Tabone drew a RBI walk with the bases loaded to make it a 10-4 game.
Wesleyan struck again in the ninth with a two out McGee RBI double to the left center wall, and Suttle made it 10-6 with a stand-up RBI triple to left center. The Rams ran out of innings getting just a little too late, surrendering their first game in a month.
The Rams will continue their home stand with a conference series finale against Wiley College on Friday, April 19 starting at 3:00 pm.
