Lady Rams Take Series From Northwood

CEDAR HILL, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (19-20, 12-9 RRAC) bested rival Northwood University (17-16, 13-4 RRAC) on Wednesday. After dropping game one 9-3 to the Lady Knights, the Lady Rams came back to double dip their conference foe 6-0 and 9-7 to win the series.
 
The Lady Rams kept the game close after surrendering an early score in game one, eventually tying the game in the fourth inning on a Northwood error.
 
The Lady Knights answered in the fifth inning with a six run, six hit rally to take a commanding 7-1 lead.
 
The Lady Rams put up two runs in the sixth with a pair of RBI singles from Ashley Seibel and Sara Sandercock.
 
 The Lady Knights matched that in the bottom half of the inning to take a 9-3 lead and went on to win the game.
 
It was a different story in game two as Cheyenne Brown (8-7) completely shut down the Lady Knights to record her fourth complete game shutout of the season, while surpassing 100 innings pitched. Brown spread out six hits, only walked one, and struckout two.
 
Seibel gave the Rams the lead in the second with a RBI single. Kendall Kizer, who went 2 for 2 in the game, added to the lead in the fifth with a solo home run. Kali Jester followed that up with a two run home run to give the Texas Wesleyan a 4-0 lead.
 
The Lady Rams got a run off of an error and an Emily Burch RBI single in the sixth to make it a 6-0 lead and would secure the seventh for the win.
 
The third game was a classic, hard fought battle between two teams that did not want to lose the series. The Lady Rams manufactured a run with a Jester RBI fielder’s choice play to grab an early 1-0 lead.
 
The Knights took a 3-1 lead on a three run fourth inning.
 
Wesleyan made it 3-2 with a Sandercock sacrifice fly to keep the game in reach.
 
Northwood made a run in the fifth inning with a four run, four hit rally to jump out to a 7-2 lead.
 
Burch, who went 4 for 5 with two RBI and a run scored, got one back for the Lady Rams on a RBI single to make it a 7-3 game.
 
The Rams made the comeback in the seventh inning, starting with another Burch RBI single. Alexis Beltran picked up a pair of RBI on a single through the gap to bring Wesleyan within one run at 7-6 with two outs. Seibel made the Lady Knights play with a bases clearing, three RBI single to take a 9-7 lead. The Lady Rams headed on to take the win and the series.
 
The Lady Rams will play in the home series finale against Bacone College starting on Saturday, April 20 starting at noon.
