FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (15-17, 8-6 RRAC) picked up a pair of wins over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (11-14, 5-11 RRAC) at Sycamore Park on Friday. The Lady Rams bested the Lady Lions 7-0 before taking the night cap 6-0.
The Lady Lions wasted no time in the top of the first with a lead-off single by Bethany Krock. Krock stole second, and Feliciana Maldonado singled to put runners on the corners. An errant throw scored a run before the Lady Rams turned a double play and a fly out to center field to get out of the inning only down 1-0.
The Lady Ram bats came alive in the second inning, but started with a lead-off walk by
Ashley Seibel.
Kali Jester and
Meagen Alvarez had singles to load the bases for a
Kendall Kizer three RBI double off the center field fence.
Amber Tucker made it a 4-1 lead with a RBI base knock.
SAGU fought back in the third after a pair of Ram errors spurred to a Lion rally. Maldonado picked up a RBI single. Kasey Poovey doubled behind her to score two and tie the game. SAGU took the lead at 5-4 off of a throw down to second that allowed Blayr Huff to steal home.
The Lady Rams tied the ball game in the fifth inning that started badly for SAGU with an error. Seibel got a base hit before Jester drew a walk to load the bases.
Sara Sandercock hit a groundout RBI to make all square at 5-5.
Alexis Beltran helped herself out in the sixth in a big way. After a lead-off triple from Kizer put the go ahead run at third, Beltran stepped in the box with two away. Beltran stepped into a pitch and sent it over the center field fence to lift the Lady Rams 7-5 in game one.
Beltran (5-5) got the win in seven innings. She gave up only one earned run on five hits to go along with two walks and one strikeout.
In game two, the two teams played two scoreless innings, scattering a couple of hits here and there, but neither team threatening.
The Lady Rams started a two out rally in the third as
Emily Burch singled through the left side before Beltran kept things going with a line drive single up the middle. Seibel lit up the sky with a monster slam that cleared the left center wall to make it a 3-0 Wesleyan lead.
Jester put an exclamation on the night with towering two run home run well past the left center fence for a 5-0 lead. Kizer hit a RBI single to center to extend the lead to 6-0.
Cheyenne Brown (6-5) and Texas Wesleyan shut down the Lady Lions in the seventh to seal the 6-0 win. Brown got the complete game shutout, tossing all seven innings, scattering three hits on no walks and four strikeouts.
