FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (16-17, 9-6 RRAC) picked up a sweep over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (11-17, 5-12 RRAC) with a 1-0 win on an Ashley Seibel home run on Monday.

The two teams butted heads and scuffled through the first four innings, locked in an exciting defensive struggle.

The Lady Rams were turned away in the third inning with runners in scoring position when Emily Burch sent a fly ball to mid left field, but a good through from left fielder Bethany Krock snuffed out the threat.

The Lady Lions threatened in the fourth inning with a Feliciana Maldonado lead-off double down the left field line.  Bethany Krock followed with a single to put runners on the corners with no outs. What happened next was a rare feat.  Kelsey Coburn tried to send a fly ball deep enough to score a run, but Sara Sandercock made the catch and made a near perfect throw to the plate as Kali Jester met the ball with the glove at the same time the runner was crossing its path. Jester, without skipping a beat, turned and hurled the ball to Chelsey Durbin at second just in time for the tag on a perfectly executed triple play.

The defensive affair continued until the bottom of the sixth inning when Seibel connected on a ball that sailed high and fought the gusty wind to clear the left field fence for a solo home run.

Cheyenne Brown (7-5) and the Lady Rams shut down SAGU in the top of the seventh to take the 1-0 win and seal the sweep. Brown earned her second consecutive complete game shutout, scattering three hits on no walks and four strikeouts.

The Lady Rams will head to Hobbs, NM for a conference series against the University of the Southwest starting with a doubleheader on Friday, April 12 starting at 2:00 PM.
