DALLAS, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University (32-12) had a seven run eighth inning to take a 9-8 lead to keep their winning streak alive over the University of Texas at Dallas (17-18) on Tuesday.
The Comets took a 5-0 lead in the third inning after a hit by pitch RBI by Daniel Saxon with the bases loaded led to a failed pick-off attempt that scored a run. Jacob price triple to clear the bases for the five run inning. UT-D scored another run in the fourth for a 6-0 lead.
Texas Wesleyan got on the board in the fifth with a
Dakota Lee single up the middle for a pair of RBI to make it a 6-2 game.
The Comets answered right back in the seventh with a two RBI Jake Wyand double to left center for a 8-2 lead.
The Rams put on a huge rally comeback in the eighth inning, starting with a bases loaded walk RBI by
Joel Rickman.
Dusty Harper hit a RBI single to right, before
Alex Padilla singled behind him for another score. Lee was hit by pitch to keep the inning going before a wild pitch made tied the game at 8-8.
Trevor Moon hit a fielder’s choice RBI to take a 9-8 lead to cap the seven run inning.
The Rams held off the Comets in the eighth and ninth to seal the 9-8 win.
Michael Scruggs (4-1) earned the win in three innings of relief. He gave up two runs on two hits, walking three and striking out two.
Patrick Stanley picked up his tenth save of the season.
The Rams will come home to play a doubleheader with SAGU on Friday, April 12 at LaGrave Field. The doubleheader is set for a 1:30 PM first pitch.
