CONWAY, AR: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (3-4) fell to Columbia College (1-1) in a 10-9 down to the wire affair, before dropping Lindenwood-Belleville (1-2) 5-2 in the night cap in the Central Baptist February Meltdown Tournament on Friday.

Six teams are competing in the two day round robin event featuring squads from Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois. The Lady Rams are the only team representing the great state of Texas in the two-day tourney.

The Lady Rams got an early lead against Columbia with a three run bomb in the first inning byÂ
Amber Marlett to make it a 3-0 lead, but three RBI hits by the Cougars in the home half of the inning tied the game.  Marlett andÂ
Raven Moreno teamed up in the third inning to take a 5-3 lead. Â
Meagen Alvarez and the Lady Rams kept the bats hot with two RBI double for an 8-3 advantage.

The Cougars battled back with a Jamie Holmes home run to start the bottom of the fifth. Carly Spalding knocked another over the fence, and an error allowed two more runs to score, cutting the lead to 8-7. Â
Chelsea Anderson took advantage of a mistake pitch and punched a solo out of the parker to maintain a 9-7 lead.

The Cougars made a comeback in the final inning. Two singles led to a Whitni Howell RBI double to score a run cutting the score to a one run deficit.Â
Morgan Johnson struck out the next two batters, but a passed ball tied the game, and a walk-off Holmes RBI single scored the winning run.

In the second game, the Lynx got on the board in the first inning after Nicole Miskowicz earned a walk, and made her way around two score on a pair of stolen bases and a throwing error to take a 1-0 lead. The Lady Rams took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Marlett parked a home run bomb over the left field fence. Lauren Davis hit a RBI single to make it a 2-1 game.

Lindenwood-Belleville tied the game in the third with another Lady Rams miscue for a 2-2 tie, Davis picked up a RBI on a fielder's choice play, and later scored on an error to take a 4-2 lead. The Lady Rams would shut down the Lynx in the last four innings, while picking up an insurance run on an Alvarez RBI hit in the sixth for a 5-2 win.

The Lady Rams will continue in the tournament tomorrow. Day two starts with Hannibal-LaGrange College at 11:00 am, before playing host Central Baptist at 3:00 pm.
