Lady Rams Split Round Two At Meltdown

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CONWAY, AR: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (4-5) blasted Hannibal-LaGrange College (1-2) 16-2 before falling in a 2-1 nail-biter to Central Baptist University (8-3) in the second day of the Central Baptist February Meltdown Tournament.

Kendall Kizer started things off in the game against Hannibal-LaGrange with a RBI groundout. Amber Marlett made it 3-0 with a homer. The Trojans got on the board with a Danielle Stackhouse RBI single before a bases loaded walk made it 3-2.

A pair of walks and a hit batter loaded the bases for the Lady Rams in the bottom of the second. A few more runs crossed the plate before a Marlett grand slam put a ten in the run column. The Trojans walked another run home before the inning ended, and Wesleyan took an 11-2 advantage.

A Chelsea Anderson home run added to the lead in the third inning, before a Kendall Kizer RBI double and another Anderson three run bomb made it a 16-2 lead. The Trojans could not make up any ground and the game ended after five due to the mercy rule.

The game against Central Baptist was the exact opposite of the first. Marlett continued her massive offensive streak with a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Jordan Jones got the Mustangs in the hit column in the second, but were turned away.

Texas Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead in the sixth before a Haley Baugh home run tied the game. Joella Bayles led off the seventh with a double, and Tiffani Pledger came up with a walk off RBI single to take a 2-1 win for the Mustangs.

The Lady Rams will start a series with Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Tuesday, February 25. The double header will start at 5:00 pm.
