Lady Rams Double Dip SAGU

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (12-9, 5-3 SAC) double dipped Southwestern Assemblies of God University (6-24, 1-15 SAC) on Friday night. The Lady Rams took a 4-0 win before notching an 8-0 win in the night cap at Sycamore Park.  
 
The Lady Rams grabbed an early lead after a Meagen Alvarez lead-off base hit led to a Lady Lion error, allowing her to score from first.
 
Amber Marlett put the second run on the scoreboard with a smash over the left center wall.
 
The Lady Rams posted a run in the third inning on a Lauren Davis RBI single through the left side to make it a 3-0 lead.
 
Davis tallied the fourth run for the Lady Rams in the fifth with another RBI single down the left field line, scoring Marlett from second.
 
Marlett (6-1) retired nine in a row to secure a two hit, 4-0 win. She tossed all seven innings, giving up only two hits, two walks, while racking up 11 strikeouts.    
 
Davis went 3 for 3 with a pair of RBI. Marlett went 3 for 3 a RBI and two runs scored.
 
The Lady Rams displayed some slick base running in the start the second game. Alvarez reached on a walk to start things off, and Amber Tucker put down a sacrifice bunt to put the runner in scoring position. Alvarez swiped third before Kendall Kizer drew a walk. Kizer stole second before a wild pitch allowed Alvarez to score, Kizer taking third in the process. Marlett hit a RBI sacrifice fly to left to make it a 2-0 game. Chelsea Anderson walked and scored on another wild pitch, and Texas Wesleyan made it 3-nil after an inning.
 
The Lady Rams busted out a five run rally in the fourth inning. Alvarez punched a shot up the middle to score two, before Anderson crushed a ball over the left center fence for an 8-0 advantage.
 
Morgan Johnson and the Lady Rams shut down the Lady Lions in the fifth inning to activate the mercy rule, taking an 8-0 win. Johnson (3-4) tossed all five in the shutout for Wesleyan. She allowed three hits on three walks and five strikeouts.
 
Anderson went 1 for 2 with three RBI in the win. Alvarez went 1 for 3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
 
The Lady Rams will travel to Oklahoma City, OK for a double header against Oklahoma City University on Friday, March 28 starting at 5:00 pm.
