Box Score 2 BETHANY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (15-10, 8-4 SAC) knocked off Southwestern Christian University (12-19, 3-11 SAC) 7-2, before winning an 8-7 thriller in an afternoon double header on Saturday.
In game one, each team had multiple chances to take the lead in the first three innings. The two teams left eight runners on base combined through the first three, stuck in a 0-0 ball game.
Texas Wesleyan took a slight lead in the fourth inning on a
Meagen Alvarez RBI fielder's choice play for a 1-0 advantage.
The Lady Eagles came right back in the bottom half of the same inning. Charity Robinson and Katie Miller hit back-to-back homers to center field for Southwestern Christian, taking a 2-1 lead in the process.
The Lady Rams battled back with a three run fifth inning that started with a
Kendall Kizer double down the right field line.
Amber Tucker hit a RBI single to right center to tie the game.
Chelsea Anderson singled to left before
Kali Jester doubled down the left field line to set up favorable conditions with two away. A passed ball allowed both runners to score, and the Rams came away with a 4-2 lead.
Wesleyan piled three more runs in the sixth on a Kizer RBI fielder's choice play, and a
Lauren Davis two RBI double to right field to make it 7-2. The Rams held the lead to take the game one win.
Alvarez went 3 for 4, while Jester went 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Davis went 1 for 4 with a pair of RBI.
Amanda Windham (4-4) got the win. She tossed 3.1 shutout innings in relief, scattering three hits, while striking out four.
Game two was a good old fashioned shootout, as both teams were on their fourth game in less than 24 hours.
Texas Wesleyan got the ball rolling with a three run second inning.
Kylie Sumners went yard over the center field fence to take the lead.
Dani West drew a walk, and Kizer made the Eagles pay with a two-run blast past the center field wall for a 3-0 lead.
Jazmine Koener answered for the Eagles in the bottom of the third with a two run shot to cut the lead to 3-2.
The Lady Eagles struck again in the fourth inning, earning three consecutive hits that ended in a Wynter Wind-Raghoeb three-run home run to left field. That home run put Southwestern Christian up 5-3.
The Lady Rams put a two out rally together in the sixth. Kizer reached on a fielder's choice, before Davis singled to left center to put a runner in scoring position. Anderson delivered with a monster three run slam to take a 6-5 lead in the late goings.
The Lady Eagles were not going down without a fight though, as the bottom of the sixth saw the fourth lead change of the contest. Alaura Prenslow put herself on base with a single before Wind-Raghoeb made it 7-6 Southwestern Christian with her second home run of the game.
Raven Moreno led off the top of the seventh inning with a single to shallow center field and advanced to second on a passed ball. The Lady Eagles got a ground out and a pop out in the next two at-bats to put the pressure on Wesleyan in the final inning. Kizer stepped up to the plate and stepped into a pitch with two strikes on her, smashing a long drive over the center field fence for some clutch, late inning heroics to give Wesleyan an 8-7 lead.
The Rams got three up, three down in the bottom of the seventh to come out with series sweep over Southwestern Christian.
Kizer led Wesleyan going 4 for 5 with four RBI, two home runs, and three runs scored. Anderson went 2 for 3 with a homer and three RBI.
The Lady Rams will continue in conference play with a double header at home against Northwood University on Tuesday, April 1. Game one is set for a 5:00 first pitch at Sycamore Park.
