FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (5-6, 1-1 SAC) split a Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader with Southwestern Assemblies of God University (6-14, 1-5 SAC) at Sycamore Park on Tuesday. They Lady Lions earned a 2-0 win in game one, before the Rams romped to an 8-0 run-shortened victory in game two.
In game one, Kelsey Colburn staked the Lions to a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the first inning. An RBI walk drawn by Feliciana Maldonado made it 2-0 in the second.
The Texas Wesleyan offense could not mount an attack against Lee. Leadoff doubles in the third and seventh innings went for naught as SAGU came away with the 2-0 win.
Hannah Lee (3-5) earned the win after scattering five hits and striking out six in seven innings.
Amanda Windham (2-3) took the loss after allowing two runs on just three hits while striking out seven in seven innings.
The Lady Rams wasted no time setting a much different tone in game two as they plated four runs on three hits and a pair of SAGU errors in the first inning.
Dani West created the first run on her own. West reached on an infield single, stole second and then scored when the throw sailed into centerfield.
A two-run homer from
Amber Marlett highlighted a three-run second that pushed the score to 7-0.
Meanwhile
Morgan Johnson stifled the SAGU bats, allowing just an infield single through the first four innings. Marlett ripped a one-out double in the sixth, and the Lady Rams later plated the game-ending run on a SAGU error.
Johnson (1-3) earned the win after allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out six in six innings. Maldonado (0-3) surrendered eight runs, four earned, on 12 hits in 5.1 innings pitched.
West,
Kendall Kizer, Marlett, and
Lauren Davis all went 2-for-4 at the plate in the win.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Friday, when they travel to Oklahoma City, OK, for an SAC doubleheader at Oklahoma City University. Game one is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start.
