FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (5-8, 1-3 SAC) scared third ranked Oklahoma City Stars (16-1, 6-0 SAC) with an extra inning 2-1 loss before dropping game two 9-0 (6) at Sycamore Park on Friday.
Â
The Lady Rams navigated the bases very well in the bottom of the first afterÂ
Meagen Alvarez drew a walk andÂ
Amber Marlett singled to load the bases. AÂ
Kali Jester RBI single beat the shortstop through the left side for a 1-0 Wesleyan lead.
Â
A pitching duel ensued in the following innings with Marlett absolutely halting anything resembling a well hit ball off of a Stars bat. Marlett took a no-hitter through five and a third innings before Kyndra Holasek broke up the no-no with a double to left field. Texas Wesleyan stood strong and got out of the inning to hold the 1-0 lead.
Â
Wesleyan was poised to take game one before Jocelin Diaz tied the game at 1-1 on a two out line drive home run over the left field fence in the seventh inning.
Â
The two teams needed extra innings to decide the winner of game one, as the Stars got the go ahead run across home plate on a Wesleyan error. The Lady Rams got speedsterÂ
Dani West to third, but Oklahoma City escaped with the 2-1 win.
Â
Marlett (2-1) picked up the loss despite pitching on point for most of the game. She tossed eight innings, gave up two runs (one earned), on two hits, with one walk and six strikeouts. Jester went 2 for 3 with a RBI.
Â
In game two the Stars flexed their muscles a bit, jumping out to a 5-0 lead through three innings of play. The Lady Rams consistently put runners on base, but the Stars were determined to keep Texas Wesleyan from playing upset again. Oklahoma City took a 9-0 win in six innings.
Â
Lauren Davis andÂ
Amber Tucker both went 1 for 2 in game two for the Lady Rams.
Â
Texas Wesleyan will be back in conference action tomorrow, hosting Southwestern Christian University at Syamore Park. The double header is set for a 12:00 pm first pitch.Â
