Lady Rams Slam SCU

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (7-8, 3-3 SAC) swept a Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader against Southwestern Christian University (7-9, 1-5 SAC) at Sycamore Park on Saturday.  The Lady Rams took game one 9-7 before exploding for a 24-5 win in game two.
 
The Eagles came out swinging in game one, tallying a solo homer from Chloe Wright and a two-run single from Wynter Raghoebar to snatch a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
 
The Rams responded in the second when they batted around and plated five runs on five hits including a pair of two-run doubles from Morgan Johnson and Lauren Davis.
 
Doubles from Chelsea Anderson and Davis in the third pushed the score to 7-3.  Anderson led off the fifth with a double and later scored on a sac fly from Davis.
 
SCU put four runs on the board in the sixth to close the gap to 8-7.  Meagen Alvarez led off the bottom of the sixth with a triple to right and gave the Rams an insurance run when she scored on a ground ball from Kendall Kizer.
 
Amber Marlett (3-1) got the win after allowing seven runs, five earned, on seven hits while striking out seven in six innings of work.  Johnson pitched a scoreless seventh to notch her first save of the season.  Katelyn Dollard (2-4) took the loss after allowing nine runs on 11 hits in six innings pitched.
 
Alvarez set the table for the Rams by going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.  Davis went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI in the win.
 
In game two the Rams exploded with the second-highest scoring output in school history.  Their 24 runs trailed only a 27-0 victory over Jarvis Christian College in 2008.
 
Texas Wesleyan's first eight batters of the game all reached base.  The Lady Rams plated six runs in the first on four hits, including a three-run homer from Kali Jester.
 
Anderson touched off a solo homer in the second.  In the third, the Rams sent 14 hitters to the plate and scored 10 runs on 10 hits.  Kizer had a pair of singles and three RBI in the frame.  Alvarez, and Raven Moreno each had a pair of hits as well, while Johnson added a two-run double.
 
The hits kept on coming in the fourth.  A three-run homer from Anderson and an RBI double from Ashley Seibel highlighted a seven-run inning that pushed the score to 24-2.
 
The Eagles added an inconsequential three runs in the top of the fifth to cap the scoring at 24-5.
 
Johnson (2-3) earned the win after allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits in five innings.  Bailey Jones (3-4) took the loss after surrendering 12 runs on nine hits and four walks in two innings.
 
All-nine starters had at least one hit and at least one RBI in the game.  Alvarez, Kizer, Jester, and Davis each had three-hits.  Johnson went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI and three runs scored.  Kizer knocked in six, Anderson five, and Jester four.
 
The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to San Antonio, TX, to take on Our Lady of the Lake University.  That doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
