#21 Bison Take Two From Lady Rams

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (18-15, 11-9 SAC) dropped two hard fought contests against #21 Oklahoma Baptist University (30-11, 15-3 SAC). The Lady Bison escaped the Lady Rams 1-0 in game one before taking a 4-1 win in game two at Sycamore Park on Friday.

The Lady Bison threatened in the second after Annie Combs led off the second with a single into shallow right field. A sacrifice bunt moved the runner into scoring position, and a passed ball allowed her to take third. Texas Wesleyan shut the door with an Amber Marlett strikeout, and a Chelsea Anderson line drive snag to get out of the inning unscathed.

Oklahoma Baptist threatened again in the top of the fourth inning, after Raeven Clark got a hold of a ball and sent it deep to left field. Amber Tucker spoiled that good feeling with a fantastic play, robbing a home run by stretching her glove over the fence to snag it, keeping a run off the board.

The 21st ranked team in the nation finally broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning with Sammy Leisinger RBI double for a 1-0 Bison lead.

Marlett nearly tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a smash that hit off the top of the fence for a stand up double, but the Lady Rams could not make run, falling 1-0.

Marlett (11-3) suffered the loss but threw another solid game, tossing seven innings, allowing one run on five hits to go along with one free pass and five strikeouts. She also led the Rams going 2 for 2 with a pair of doubles.

The Lady Rams produced a nice two out rally starting with a Kendall Kizer two out single through the left side. Marlett drew a walk before Anderson hit a laser that beat the left fielder for a RBI double to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Bison posted a pair of runs a on a Combs two RBI double in the third to make it a 2-1 ball game. Amanda Harmon scored on a wild pitch and Combs scored on a Noelle McDowell RBI single to right to take a 4-1 advantage.

The Lady Rams left five runners on base, and dropped game two 4-1. Kizer went 3 for 3 in the loss. Anderson went 1 for 3 with a RBI.

The Lady Rams will play St. Gregory's University in a double header tomorrow starting at noon. The games have been moved to Richland High School at 7500 Noreast Drive, North Richland Hills, TX.
