Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (19-16, 12-10 SAC) upset #4 St. Gregory's University (38-6, 19-3 SAC) with a 3-0 shutdown win, before the Cavaliers narrowly escaped the Rams in game two, 3-2 at the Richland High School Rebel Softball Complex on Saturday.

The Lady Rams picked up a pair of runs in the second inning to start things off. Chelsea Anderson led the inning off with a walk, and Lauren Davis beat the tag of the first baseman on an infield single. A passed ball advanced the runners before an Ashley Seibel RBI groundout scored the first run of the game. Kylie Sumners smashed a line drive shot into center field to drive in a run for a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Rams were able to calm the Cavaliers offensive attack, scattering six hits through six innings.

Texas Wesleyan added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning on some powerful hits despite the strong, gusty southerly win blowing straight in towards the first base side of the field. Amber Marlett hit a hard liner that tipped off the glove of the pitcher for an infield hit to lead off. Anderson crushed a ball into the left center gap for a double. Davis hit a RBI groundout to make it 3-0 lead.

Texas Wesleyan held off the Cavs to secure the game one upset. Marlett (12-3) earned the win. She tossed five shutout innings, scattered six hits, and gave up no walks, while striking out two.

St. Gregory's started the first inning of the second game with a bang, taking advantage of a few wild pitches and passed balls allowing runners to move into scoring position. A run crossed the plate on a wild pitch strikeout to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead. Caitlin O'Hagan and Allison Eales hit a pair of RBI singles to take a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Rams fought back in the bottom of the third inning, starting with a pair of Lady Cav errors that made way for a Raven Moreno RBI single to center field. Wesleyan worked their way into a very favorable bases loaded situation with no outs. Marlett drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left field to make it a 3-2 game.

St. Gregory's thought they had an insurance run in the fifth, after a two on, two out single from Eales that Randi Yousey tried to stretch to the plate. The Cavs were turned away through, by a tailor-made throw from Alvarez to Jester get the final out of the inning.

The Lady Rams had the bases loaded again in the fifth, but the Cavaliers found a way out, forcing a pair of fly outs to escape the inning.

Marlett lined a single into left field with one away in the bottom of the seventh. Anderson followed that with a rip in the right center gap for a double, putting the go ahead run on second. The fourth ranked team tightened up though, getting the last two outs to avoid another upset.

Marlett went 3 for 3 with a RBI. Raven Moreno went 1 for 4 with a RBI. Amanda Windham threw six shutout innings, and despite the rough first inning, pitched a great game. She allowed three run, but only one was earned, on seven hits, walked four, and sat down one.

The Lady Rams will take the short drive to Cedar Hill, TX for a double header against Northwood University on Wednesday, April 16. Game time is set for a 2:00 pm start.
