Lady Rams Earn Sweep In Encore Edition vs. Northwood

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (24-19) earned a pair of 2-0 wins over Northwood University (16-33) on Senior Night at Sycamore Park on Wednesday.

The long time conference rivals competed in an encore of their SAC series finale with a pair of non-conference games, after the double header against Our Lady of the Lake scheduled yesterday was canceled.

The Lady Rams took an early lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI Morgan Johnson two out, bases loaded base knock through the left side for a 1-0 advantage.

Texas Welseyan added a run in the second, after a Kylie Sumners double to left field set up a Meagen Alvarez RBI double to the left center fence to secure a 2-0 margin.

Amber Marlett (14-3) and the Lady Rams shut down the Lady Knights to grab a 2-0 game one win.  Marlett earned her seventh complete game shutout, limiting Northwood to only two hits, two walks, while fanning eight batters.

Alvarez went 1 for 2 with a RBI and a run scored. Johnson went 2 for 3 with a RBI and a run scored. Sumners went 1 for 3 with a run scored.

The Texas Wesleyan softball program honored six seniors in between games for all of their hard work, dedication, and support. Alvarez, Johnson, Sumners, Kali Jester, Raven Moreno, and Ashley Seibel have been responsible for 132 wins, two conference championships, a national tournament appearance, and numerous individual accolades. Their competitive spirit and great attitude has been a joy for this writer to cover. They will be greatly missed.

The Lady Rams repeated game one, nearly to a tee, with a slightly different cast. Wesleyan went a two out rally in the first, starting with a Kendall Kizer walk. Chelsea Anderson smashed a double, before Jester answered with a two RBI double to give the Rams a 2-0 lead after an inning of play.

From there, Morgan Johnson (4-9) and the Lady Rams shutout the Lady Knights to gain another 2-0 win. Johnson put an exclamation on her last home game with a one hit shutout. She walked four and whiffed one.

Jester went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI. Anderson went 1 for 2 with a run scored.

Texas Wesleyan will travel to Shawnee, OK for a conference matchup against Oklahoma Baptist University. Game time is set for a 5:00 pm start.
