Lady Rams Compete In SAC Tourney

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (24-25) dropped an 11-2 game to #17 Oklahoma City Univeristy (46-11) before taking an 8-0 loss to #6 St. Gregory's University (47-6) in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Ann Lacy Stadium on Thursday.
 
The Lady Rams took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game one against seventeenth ranked Oklahoma City.  Meagen Alvarezbeat out a bunt single to lead off the inning. Amber Tucker followed with another infield single to second base. Alvarez advanced to third on a Kendall Kizer fly out to right field.Chelsea Anderson drew a walk in the next at bat before Amber Marlett reached on a Star error that scored Alvarez from third.
 
The Stars tied the game on an unearned run in the second inning. After an Emily Krienke walk, Texas Wesleyan got a pop-up that had the possibility of a double play, but an errant throw allowed Krienke to reach third base. Danielle Fox hit a RBI single in the next at bat to tie the game at 1-1.
 
The Stars gained the lead on a successful first and third, double steal play to start the third inning. Oklahoma City scored two more runs to take a 4-1 lead.
 
Texas Wesleyan got a run back in the home half of the same inning after an Anderson three bagger to right field with one away.  Marlett hit a RBI groundout to shortstop to make it a 4-2 ball game.
 
The Stars made the Lady Rams pay after dropping a foul ball pop fly that turned into a Jocelin Diaz home run over the left field wall. Oklahoma City went on to score five more runs to take an 11-2 advantage that would eventually be the final score.
 
Errors plagued Wesleyan as four Lady Ram mistakes resulted in eight unearned runs.
 
Alvarez led the Lady Rams going 3 for 3 with a double and a run scored. Anderson went 1 for 2 with a triple.
 
In game two, the sixth ranked team in the country grabbed a lead with a three run rally in the second inning. The Cavaliers put the first run on the board with a two out, Dani Nissen RBI single through the left side. The next two runs crossed the plate on Lady Ram mishap to allow St. Gregory's to take a decent lead early in the contest.
 
Lauren Davis registered the first and only hit for Wesleyan in the third inning with a single to the left center gap.
 
The Lady Rams could get no momentum, facing two extremely solid top 25 competitors in day one of the round robin event, as St. Gregory's took an 8-0 win.
 
The Lady Rams will take on Southwestern Christian University in day two of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament tomorrow starting at 1:00 pm.
