Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (24-26) dropped a 5-3 battle to Southwestern Christian University (17-35) in the conference tournament and season finale at Ann Lacy Stadium on Friday.
The Lady Rams jumped on top of the Eagles in the first inning, starting with Southwestern Christian error that allowed
Meagen Alvarez to reach first. She stole second and advanced to third on an overthrow in the next play to set up favorable conditions for Wesleyan with no outs.
Amber Tucker got the job done with a RBI groundout to shortstop, and the Rams took an early 1-0 lead.
Morgan Johnson gave Texas Wesleyan an insurance run in the second with a home run smash over the center field fence to make it a 2-0 Lady Ram advantage.
The Lady Eagles fought back and cut the lead in half in the third inning. After the nine hole hitter Katie Miller was let off the hook with a walk, Chloe Wright came through with a double down the left field line that scored Miller from first.
Southwestern Christian posted two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to take a 5-2 lead.
Texas Wesleyan got a run back in the sixth inning, starting with a
Kali Jester base on balls. Johnson moved her to third with a line drive single to left field. The Lady Rams executed a first and third play, with Johnson taking second, and a bad throw allowed Jester to score easily.
The Lady Rams could not make up any ground from there, as the Lady Eagles secured a 5-3 win.
Amber Marlett went 2 for 3with a double.
Ashley Seibel went 2 for 3 in the loss. The Lady Rams tagged the ball for eight hits, but could not turn those hits into more runs.
The Lady Rams end their inaugural season in the Sooner Athletic Conference with 15 conference wins. The softball program would like to thank the parents, students and fans that showed their support throughout the season.
