WAXAHACHIE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (1-1) picked up a 76-57 win over St Thomas-Houston (0-1) in the 2017 SAGU Classic on Friday.

Texas Wesleyan shot 45 percent from the floor and led by as many as 26 in the first win of this early season.

The Lady Rams trailed early, but worked quickly to post a 12-11 edge on the Celts with a Karah Sicurella triple. TXWES closed out the opening quarter of play with a 5-0 rally capped by a Tomi Sanchez runner in the paint for a 21-15 lead.

The lead grew to double digits in the second quarter at 33-23 after a Swairie Fernando jumper midway through. The Celts cut into the lead in the waning minutes, but the Lady Rams held a 37-30 cushion at the break.

It was all Lady Rams in the second half, outscoring their opponent 23-9 in the third quarter to establish a dominant 21-point lead. Texas Wesleyan cruised in the fourth to seal the 76-57 win.

Three Lady Rams reached double figures in points, as Sicurella led the charge with 14. Nicole Gleason and Alycia Louallen each finished with 11 points. Lexi Burns poured in nine points and eight rebounds in the win.

The round robin tournament will continue tomorrow, November 11 as the Lady Rams take on (RV) LSU-Shreveport at 1:00 p.m. at the Schaeffer Full Life Center.
